scimitar mmo mouseScimitar MMO Mouse is one of the few members of Corsair MMO mouse series. Corsair Scimitar Mouse is one of the well known mice in the MMO/MOBA gaming scene and was named by Corsair as “the most advanced MOBA/MMO mouse”.Well, Scimitar MMO Mouse definetely deserves some credit it takes thanks to its patent pending revolutionary key slider system. I’ll explain you why it’s famous and cool, but first it’s lesson time.

I always recommend to people to learn the basics of technology behind gaming peripherals or at least what to look in them. Because if you’re going to pick a gaming peripheral or any other item related to gaming, it can be a console, monitor or other gear, no matter what, it will be so beneficial to know what are the main things to consider. Scimitar really shows itself with their special features. No wonder why it’s one of the best choices of MOBA/MMO players. It’s not the first Corsair MMO mouse though. Before Scimitar, there was Vengeance M90. Both are great MMO mice, but Scimitar is so similar to Razer Naga with the 12 thumb grid buttons at the side of the mouse. These kind of mice usually are preferred by MOBA/MMO players, but why? Devil is in the details. Let’s start with its special features:

I know some of you guys prefare visual content, so here’s a video overview of the Scimitar Mouse:

Now let’s take a look at main features of this MMO monster.

scimitar mmo mouseKey Slider Button Control

The main thing that makes Corsair Scimitar mouse special is the Key Slider. This is a patent pending innovation from Corsair’s R&D department. I haven’t seen this feature in any other mouse and it really is great for people who want to fit their mouse to their own needs. As you can guess everybody has different body and hand sizes. So key slider allows you to change the placement of these 12 thumb grid button group in a range of 8mm horizontally. This is the unique feature of this mouse and it gives you the ability to suit the thumb keys for yourself if you’re not happy with their placement.

Ergonomics

Scimitar MMO Mouse has its special shape designed for better ergonomics and better engagement. MMO mice usually have bigger dimensions than mice for FPS. This is also valid for Scimitar MMO Mouse. It has larger dimensions than other classical mice, another thing that i like. So it fits your hand quite nice. Unless you have very tiny hands, it’s a really comfortable mouse to play with. It has a hump near to the end of buttons and a long rear slope after the hump. This is a good ergonomic design for your palm rest.

Maybe ergonomics seems to you like some useless thing. But these ergonomic features are good for your wrist health, especially if you’re playing for long hours. And MMO players usually spend long hours playing. Sometimes they even play for days.

You can see aluminium plate at background of thumb grid buttons, which gives a great view. Aluminium is a great metal which is more durable than iron and more appealing to the eye. Surface part with the optical sensor is also made from aluminium. Top of the mouse is made from rubber. You can notice contoured surface on the resting gap of pinky and ring finger. At lower side of the thumb keys there is an additional RGB light.

Tracking capacity

Scimitar has everything it takes to be a good gaming mouse with great tracking capabilities. With it’s 12000 DPI sensitivity it’s suitable to any big resolution, no matter if it’s a 4k monitor or a big living room TV. It has a zero-acceleration optical mouse sensor with sensitivity up to 12000 dpi. These are great parameters that you can find in a gaming mouse. No acceleration and lower lift-off distance provides you great precision during gaming. If you do’t know what is dpi or don’t know what means an optical sensor, then i recommend you to read our articles:

Optical versus laser mouse. What’s the difference between optical and laser mouse?
What is mouse DPI? Mouse DPI explainedcorsair scimitar mouse

Lighting System

Corsair Scimitar has 5 light emitting points on itself:

  1. One at the front below the right click button;
  2. One in the mouse wheel;
  3. One in front of thumb grid buttons;
  4. One at thumb grid buttons;
  5. Last one at the palm rest.

These light emitters are fully customizable from Corsairscimitar mmo mouse Utility Engine Software and you can assign different colorcombinations to a profile. In other words, there are no limits. You can choose from 16.8 million wide color range.

Weight

Scimitar MMO Mouse is 147 grams, which is heavier than usual mice. I myself prefer heavy mice. To be honest, we’re talking about grams here. And these so light weights may not seem important to you. I can imagine you saying “come on man these are just grams! Why the hell should i bother?”. If you’re using your mouse for long hours or just using your mouse oftenly, it matters in the long term. Some mice just seem to me so light that i can’t even feel it.

I like heavier mice because they give me the actual feeling of control over my mouse. But of course everyone has their own preferances.

Usually the weight diapozone between 135-150 grams are gamers’ favourite. The increased weight can give you the feel of control. If supersonic speed is not what you’re seeking, then you’ll definetely be fine with 147 grams of this badboy.

Corsair Utility Engine (CUE) Software

Corsair Scimitar Mouse works with its own software Corsair Utility Engine (CUE). CUE Software exist in order to customize your buttons, lights and tracking settings. Usually every big gaming peripheral manufacturer has their own software for their products. These softwares usually have the same features. CUE is,as you can guess, one of them. I can admit that software interface is great and provides you the ability to set your own macros, texts and keystrokes to certain buttons and control your media settings like music or video playback and system volume. You can also create profiles for different sets.

But what’s a profile? It’s actually the complete settings and adjustments you modified to your mouse. If you would like to use not only one set, but multiple sets of different mouse settings, you can create profiles for your different needs. As an example, if you want to play World of Warcraft, you can modify your mouse settings in the way you want, adjust macros and hotkeys to your buttons, set your tracking settings and set it all as one profile. But you don’t want to use your mouse just for WOW, but let’s say you also want to use it with photoshop. You will create another additional profile for your photoshop hotkeys and you can just switch the profiles when you are done with your job at that moment.

scimitar mmo mouse

A great ability that CUE gives you is the profile switching just with one button. Yes, you can assign the profile switch command to a button and you will be able to swipe between profiles suitable for your needs just with a click.

The lighting menu in CUE allows you to adjust the color of mouse lighting. There are four RGB lighting zones on Scimitar MMO Mouse and you can fully customize all of them. You can also choose from different lighting effects. They are solid color, color shift, rainbow and color pulse.

In the Performance & DPI submenu you can adjust your pointer speed, angle snapping, lift height and pointer precision setting. The color of LED light by the thumb grid is also set from this sub menu.

Price

Scimitar is great in many ways as you see. It can be optimized to fulfill any task you desire. And it has a really logical price for all the great futures it presents. Last time when i checked out it was $79.99 at Amazon.com. But you can check it out from here for the latest price. There are discounts sometimes and you may get it for a cheaper price.

Scimitar also has 2 year warranty, which is a good icing on the top.

Final Thoughts

So,let’s summ all it up with its pros and cons. Altough i really am in love with almost every peripheral i review, i must be honest and objective. Here they are:

Pros:

  • Great features for MMO/MOBA games. The most significant of them are the 12 thumb grid and other fully programmable buttons.
  • The one of its kind key slide system.
  • Zero acceleration 12000 max DPI Optical Sensor for pro gaming.
  • Fully customizable lighting system with 5 RGB LED light emitting points.
  • Specially designed ergonomics for maximum comfort.
  • 2 year warranty.
  • Good alternative to use in design field.

Cons:

  • If you don’t like big and heavier mice, it met get some time for you to get used to it.
  • If you’re going to use your mouse for simpler daily purposes or for other kind of games like FPS, then you might consider some other mice. Like Razer Deathadder maybe.

Scimitar MMO Mouse Conclusion

    Hello,

Woah man that Corsair Scimitar looks sick! I bet it would go well with League or WOW. I know back when I was playing WOW religiously I was always running out of buttons so those extra side buttons are awesome. The only complaint I have is the color scheme isn’t my favorite with the yellow but that’s OK. Is this the best option for an MMO mouse out there in your opinion?

    -Anthony

    • admin says:

Hey Anthony) Thank you for your interest. There are several MMO mice out there. One signature for almost every manufacturer. It is up to persons own preferance but Scimitar is one of the best. I wouldn’t need any other MMo Mouse than Scimitar. But if you would like some example, Razer Naga is also great. And Madcatz has its own MMo Mouse and it’s also sick.

  2. Anh Nguyen says:

This Corsair is gorgeous. I agree that the sliding of the buttons is a very nice ergonomic touch. I usually don’t palm my whole mouse so it can be problematic if the keys are out of reach.

Really love the concept of your page and focus only on gaming mices. Keep up the good work, man. I look forward to more detailed reviews in the future.

    Cheers!

    • admin says:

Thanks for the interest dude! I will try my best. And i will review other gears relevant to gaming, but it will mostly be focused on mice.

  3. Brad says:

Wow, that Scimitar MMO Mouse is serious business! And to think that I’m still gaming with a standard mouse lol! I am seriously missing out, very nice review! I am usually intimidated by these high tech mouse features, but your review made it much easier for me to understand what it’s all about and how I could benefit from it! That slider feature for the side buttons is a wicked design, very smart one size fits all style! Nice job covering the Scimitar MMO Mouse details!

  4. Brandy says:

Awesome review! Appearance wise, it looks like the Lamborghini of mice. Super slick.

The sliding key pad is brilliant!

I recently tossed my Naga of a couple years and got the DeathAdder. My problem with the Naga is that I’m left handed. Using the thumb key buttons with my pinky didn’t really work well. I’m glad to see that more and more gaming mice are becoming available for the left-handed gamers.

Do you know, does Corsair make a left handed version?

  5. Christian says:

Okay, I have been out of the game too long, I come from the days of Mario Brothers, Contra, and Double Dragon. Started leaning more towards sports oriented games around the time the Sega Genesis was released. Never have been into shooters or rpg, but what is MOBA/MMO? This mouse looks ABSOLUTELY cool, but I wouldn’t know what to do with it. but how about this, I know quality when I see it, and there was some engineering time put into this design. I already know that it serves it’s purpose in dimes on a scale of 1 – 10. Get back to me about that MMO/MOBA would you?

    • admin says:

Hey Christian! Yes scimitar is great in all ways.MOBA/MMO means Multiplayer Online Battle Arena(MOBA) and Massive Multiplayer Online(MMO). Examples for these genres are League of Legends (MOBA) and World of Warcraft (MMO).

  6. Jessica says:

This mouse looks really cool. I had heard someone talking about buttons along the side of the mouse but I had no idea what they were talking about until I saw this review. This looks really awesome for someone who is very serious about their gaming. I am not that into gaming, but the mouse I have doesn’t even work right for the games I do enjoy. I would love to get another one, but I think one may be a little too advanced for what I need. But it looks great for someone serious about games.

    • admin says:

Hey Jessica! I’m so glad that you liked my review) Yes it’s true that Scimitar is an advanced gaming mouse which is so suitable for the ones who want to grade their gaming up to new level. It is quite handy for several purposes and i would consider having one but if you would like a mouse for FPS than you may choose some other mouse

  7. Kendrick says:

What a great review for the corsair mmo mouse! It makes a world of a difference on what mouse you choose. I for one am in need of a great mouse.

I have not seen one like this before. With all the great information that you have presented, I think this one right here is going to be a game changer for me!

    Thanks for the awesome review!
    Cheers,
    Kendrick

  8. Billy Hunter says:

Wow I literally need this mouse. It just looks super cool. It almost reminds me of a sports car for your computer. CAn you imagine playing Runescape with this bad boy! I would level up every second! What type of pc games would you recommend for full effecient power and most capability for this mouse? WOuld I play LOL or Runescape or WOW? I mean I would want to play Runescape but what do you feel is the right call?

    • admin says:

Hey Billy! This really is a sports car when you compare it with automotive industry. It, in my opinion, best suits to games like WOW, Runescape and LOL. Ad Runescape as much as i remember had many shortcuts that you can use, so i think it may be the right call))

  9. Tar says:

When I first look at the image on the post, I thought it’s a telephone.

Anyways, I would say it’s genuinely innovative considering the shape and features it boasts.

More, I see it’s flexible, can be utilized and catered on personal preference, convenient and compatible.

Although I am not a gamer, it’s something I can introduce to some of my friends who are into pc games.

Great review, my friend. Well done, Duru!

    Tar

  10. Lee Zhi Wei says:

    Hey there

You have laid out a great article relating to gaming mouse. To a hardcore gamer like me who’s trying to actually find a gaming mouse, its of much help.

The design look sick & by looking at the specifications, I can already feel the excitement of using it along with Dota 2.

    Thanks for the review!
    Zhi Wei

    • admin says:

      Hey Lee!

Thank you for your appreciation! Scimitar is really great and it has many reasons to be. For a hardcore gamer like you it definetely will work out. Just like Dota 2 you can use it in many different games ad many different areas.

  11. Cees says:

Thanks for a really interesting site. I never knew that there were so many different computer mouses out there.
But I was wondering if you had any idea if a mouse like the ones you describe can also be used with virtual reality games and pair somehow to a VR headset phone or pc?

    Cees

    • admin says:

Hey Cees! I don’t know if they can be connected to VR headsets so i will fail answering that question. But thanks for your kind words.

  12. Cees says:

Hello and thanks for all the info regarding computer gaming mouses. I never knew there were that many but I was wondering do you have any idea if there are mouses available you can use together with a VR set and use to play VR games. Or perhaps of another brand who his exploring the opportunities .
    Thanks

  13. Julie says:

There is no further question to ask since you already provided excellent details on the site! It also has a clear picture so that we will know more about the product. It’s actually a cool product. However, I’m just wondering if it will also become convenient for FPS games through the means of changing the game settings instead. That would make this product more convenient.

    • admin says:

Hey Julie! Thanks for your interest! Actually it doesn’t matter if you’re comfartable playing FPS gameas with a MMO mouse. But the advantage is you can assign many hotkeys with Scimitar if that’s your intention. But FPS mice are usually designed to provide you better ergonomic features and speed with accuracy.

  14. Juan says:

Thank you for describing all the pluses and minuses of Scimitar MMO Mouse. I believe you have done it in a very comprehensive way.I always enjoy reading review about people who have tried the product themselves.

I work in the design field so I will be able to use it not only for gaming but also in the field I work. Thank you for sharing!

    • admin says:

Hey Juan! Thank you for your kind words. I’m glad that you liked it. I hope that it will benefit you if you get the mouse. Please give me feedback if you try the mouse out)

  15. Tim says:

Can’t say I am much of a PC gamer (I’m into PS4) but man you have done the most comprehensive mouse review I’ve ever seen haha!

This mouse is freaking crazy… I think what I liked the most after reading your article is the buttons on the side and the fact that you can slide them to match your hand. This would be very useful in getting the most out of it. Especially with gaming as it is all about speed so you want to make sure it is perfectly in sync and using it becomes second nature.

    Cheers!

    • admin says:

Hey Tim! I’m also in love with PS. And thank you very much for your kind words))

Yeah Scimitar is definetely a gamechanger. I’m glad that you’ve found useful information in my website. I’m so happy that some people really appreciate my efforts))

  17. Kevin says:

This is a very interesting site.

I am a big fan of MMORPGs and gaming in general, so this site seems like a great way to read up on things I already do not know.

I would be curious to know about your experience using this mouse. What do you use this mouse for?

    Thank you for the information.

    Kevin

    • admin says:

I used it for WoW. It was great I must admit. The sliding thumb grid system is a patent pending innovation and Corsair Scimitar has covered my every need during extensive gaming.

  18. Andrew says:

Is there any lag with it being just in software instead of onboard memory for keystroke’s?
For Runescape and The Secret World for examples..
As I have looked at many reviews and on forums that there’s quite a few issues with delay. Key presses doesn’t register or delay. Between pressing and responds o. The PC.

As to that having CUE running all the time just to use the 12 keys since I’ve heard that people have suffered from bsod’s and CUE crashes. Having to reinsert the mouse to actually get it working properly..

This is all that’s stopping me getting this mouse myself. As I am looking at the Scimitar Black and the G502 Proteus Spectrum.

Can someone tell me if these issues are the case now still?

    • admin says:

      Hey man!!
I’m really sorry that I couldn’t answer your question for a while, I was a little too occupied with out-of-internet stuff.. Please forgive me.

Actually you’re right, I won’t deny you. I2ve also read some issues about Scimitar. Most of people who had these kind of issues say that problems are gone after updating. Some people say this kinda iisue happened to them only maybe 3 times in 6 months. And some unlucky users had more annoying issues which forced them to Alt Tab and cut their season.

My opinion: I don’t think that it has a MAJOR problem. I assume that not every user experience these kind of problems with their mice, usually minority of mouse buyers experience problems with their mice and it’s not only Corsair Scimitar, it applies to all mouses. Peripherals are complex electronic devices in their nature, that’s why guarantee periods exist I think.

About G502, I can advice it to you with my whole heart. If you want to achieve great performance, especially in FPS, Logitech g502 is one of the best alternatives that you can get. You don’t even have to think, JUST GET IT. You can’t be wrong with it.
But if your intention is to play MMO games, then you may choose Scimitar or some other MMO mouse like Logitech G600 or Redragon Perdition or any else of your own choice.

  19. Anthony says:

    Hi!
Thank you for your sharing! I am a big fan of WoW and other MMORPG and it is sometimes difficult for me to play if there are too many buttons to press on the keyboard. So, I am looking for the mouse that has high sensitivity and extra buttons. Although your recommended mouse seems to be heavy, I still like this mouse because my hand is big and the mouse is big enough for me.

    • admin says:

      Hey Anthony!

Thanks for your interest mate. Scimitar is definetely one of the big players in MMO peripherals industry. It definetely is one of my favourite. Some people have reported that it had some sensor problems in some faulty manufactured products, but I think it”s not an issue now. Corsair Vengeance is definetely a agame changer in MMO and you would be very pleased by getting one. nAnd the looks of it are KILLER maaann!!

And if you are interested in other MMO mice, you can also check out Razer Naga and Corsair Vengeance )

  20. Caleb Kim says:

I don’t think I could ever use a mouse with twelve or more buttons without playing an MMO! I do see the benefit of using this mouse in games like World of Warcraft, though. Would you also recommend this mouse in games other than MMOS, like CS:GO or League of Legends?

    • admin says:

Well, LoL is a game that you can use an MMO mouse and get benefit of, but I would choose another mopuse for CS:GO like Razer Deathadder or another FPS mouse.

As I always say, your mouse, your choice) It’s you who needs to know what you exactly need from amouse and then you can choose and optimize from the rich world of gaming peripherals)

  21. Andy B says:

This mouse looks perfect for not only just MMOs but most any other games with a lot of multitasking. Not to mention its slick design.

While the color scheme isn’t my favorite, the performance i’m sure would make up what it doesn’t have in that area. Would you say its one of the best if not the best for its price?
    Thanks and great review!

    • admin says:

It actually depends on the person. I saw many people who are pretty comfortable with MMO mice while playing FPS games and also the vice versa, and as I always mention, I don’t believe that there is one ultimate good-for-all gaming mouse.

But it doesn’t mean that Scimitar isn’t one of a hell amazing gaming peripheral. Design is SLICK and it has anything that a MMO player gets wet dreams about..

And yeah, it’s definetely one of the best for it’s price:)

I thank you for your attention! See you around =)
