I suppose many of you hardcore gamer people have heard about Korea’s PC Bangs. If haven’t heard, you may at least guest that there are places for gamers to play online games by paying an hourly rate. And you can be sure that our Korean friends are pretty frequent members of these hubs.

Actually this “gaming cafes” are quite popular all around the world. In my country they call these hubs “internet cafes” or “net cafes”. Because internet wasn’t so wide spread at pat and these places were probably the best alternative. You know the story.

And you can imagine how our Korean brothers and sisters take multiplayer gaming seriously. Have you ever seen those guys clicking mice on a Starcraft tournament?? Inhuman stuff..

For almost four years Korean PC bangs were dominated by the popularity of League of Legends. I suppose that’s not only Korea, but you get the point. Altough League of Legends was the fat of the land of PC Bangs of Korea, according to a Gametricks report, the throne has a new king now. Surprise!! It’s OVERWATCH.

The report says that just over 30 percent of players opted for Overwatch in its last measuring while League of Legends was just under 28 percent for . It’s a huge turnaround, given the popularity of LoL in Korea, although both games remain miles ahead of the third-place finisher, Sudden Attack, which managed just an 8.3 percent share.

But the question is, how much Overwatch can build out the lead?? It’s obvious that LoL isn’t going away for a long time. But how long will it last?? Overwatch’s competitive mode hasn’t rolled out yet and that’s what works for Blizzard’s favor. This article has reminded me the timeline of past games and their popularity. There was Half Life, then Warcraft then DOTA 2 then etc… This is the nature of it. Always the new thing will come and the cycle will repeat itself.

But hey, let’s see what happens..
