ASUS is the brand that probably every gamer out there knows or AT LEAST has heard about. If you haven’t heard about it, then you missed out some pretty cool stuff. ASUS has demonstrated its new weapons in Computex 2018 and it seems like they’re not willing to miss out the wave of mobile gaming mania!! ASUS has announced the ROG Phone, which can be interpreted as an answer to Razer’s Razer Phone, a gizmo which has brought some loud noise to the mobile gaming scene.
ROG Phone comes with a 90Hz display and it’s the second phone after Razer Phone with this specific display rate which no doubt ill display smoother animations. ROG Phone is powered by a specially selected 2.96 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip and if you have been interested in mobile hardware then you would know that these babies are one of the fastest Snapdragons around!!
ROG Phone’s hardware infrastructure is pretty impressive when you compared it with the standard Android gaming phones. Android doesn’t have games that will push the limits of the Snapdragon 845 but seeing the vapor cooling and the attachable fan accessory was quite an impressive experience. When I look into the ROG Phone, I see an implementation of the aesthetics performance demand of a PC gamer on a mobile realm level.
I’m pretty impressed by its design, hardware, customization options and gaming-centered attachments. Here are the specs of ASUS ROG Phone:
- Processor: 2.96GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 845
- GPU: Qualcomm Adreno 630
- Display: 6-inch 18:9 (2160×1080) OLED panel – 90Hz refresh rate and 1 ms pixel response time, HDR support / 108.6 % DCI-P3 color gamut coverage
- Size: 158.8mm x 76.2 mm x 8.6 mm
- Weight: 200g
- Battery: 4,000mAh
- Memory: 8GB RAM
- Storage: 128GB or 512 GB
- Wireless: 802.11 ad Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5
- Headphone jacks included
- Audio: Dual front-faced speakers, 24-bit/192kHz DAC DTS Headphone:X 7.1-channel virtual surround
ASUS ROG has done what it does as usual and maxed out all the specs with the best quality stuff they can offer. I haven’t come across many phones (there probably aren’t) which offer you a memory more than 8GB or a faster Snapdragon inside their phone. 512 GB of storage space is also not a convention and you probably won’t find a similar mobile storage space around, only in Porshe Design Huawei P20 Pro maybe.
There’s an X-Mode feature that ROG Phone demonstrates and if I have to define it simply I would say that it’s the “Hulk Mode” of ROG Phone. You enter into X-Mode squeezing the sides of the phone. Entering the X-Mode the sides where you apply pressure turns into a red glow and the whole interface of ROG Phone changes into an ominous red color from the cold blue.
X-Mode isn’t meant only for cosmetic purposes of course. It optimizes the performance of ROG phone by shutting down the background processes and giving the utmost priority to your present task. This way you can spare more RAM and data transfer speed to the specific task you’re working on or the game you’re enjoying. X-Mode also controls the AeroActive Cooler which is the additional fan accessory that ASUS offers for the phone.
ROG Phone comes with a ton of accessories which are not only looking BADASS but actually make a great difference when it comes to transforming the mobile gaming experience to new levels. One of them is the classic gamepad setup which transforms the ROG phone into a console. It comes with a couple of joysticks and sets of physical buttons. This controller also works with a WiGig Dock which wirelessly streams your game to a connected TV – YOUR MOBILE GAMING EXPERIENCE IS TRANSFERRED TO TV STREAM!! To be honest, the new age mobile gaming consoles are becoming a convention, but it’s still a newly developing area and I don’t have much experience with it.
There’s also the clamshell accessory – the “TwinView Dock” which turns the ROG Phone into a double screen device. It’s pretty big and packed up with some serious power of 6,000mAh battery inside of it. It has a matching screen with the ROG Phone, additional shoulder buttons, enhanced force feedback, front-facing quad speaker system and an extra cooling system. You can also display it on your PC via the docking station.
Long story short, it’s AWESOME!! And you all should check it out…
