Scimitar MMO Mouse is one of the few members of Corsair MMO mouse series. Corsair Scimitar Mouse is one of the well known mice in the MMO/MOBA gaming scene and was named by Corsair as “the most advanced MOBA/MMO mouse”.Well, Scimitar MMO Mouse definetely deserves some credit it takes thanks to its patent pending revolutionary key slider system. I’ll explain you why it’s famous and cool, but first it’s lesson time.
I always recommend to people to learn the basics of technology behind gaming peripherals or at least what to look in them. Because if you’re going to pick a gaming peripheral or any other item related to gaming, it can be a console, monitor or other gear, no matter what, it will be so beneficial to know what are the main things to consider. By this you will choose wisely and optimize your spectrum of gear. You can obtain information from our How To Choose category or start with these articles:

I know some of you guys prefare visual content, so here’s a video overview of the Scimitar Mouse:
Now let’s take a look at main features of this MMO monster.
Key Slider Button Control
The main thing that makes Corsair Scimitar mouse special is the Key Slider. This is a patent pending innovation from Corsair’s R&D department. I haven’t seen this feature in any other mouse and it really is great for people who want to fit their mouse to their own needs. As you can guess everybody has different body and hand sizes. So key slider allows you to change the placement of these 12 thumb grid button group in a range of 8mm horizontally. This is the unique feature of this mouse and it gives you the ability to suit the thumb keys for yourself if you’re not happy with their placement.
Scimitar MMO Mouse has its special shape designed for better ergonomics and better engagement. MMO mice usually have bigger dimensions than mice for FPS. This is also valid for Scimitar MMO Mouse. It has larger dimensions than other classical mice, another thing that i like. So it fits your hand quite nice. Unless you have very tiny hands, it’s a really comfortable mouse to play with. It has a hump near to the end of buttons and a long rear slope after the hump. This is a good ergonomic design for your palm rest.
Maybe ergonomics seems to you like some useless thing. But these ergonomic features are good for your wrist health, especially if you’re playing for long hours. And MMO players usually spend long hours playing. Sometimes they even play for days.
You can see aluminium plate at background of thumb grid buttons, which gives a great view. Aluminium is a great metal which is more durable than iron and more appealing to the eye. Surface part with the optical sensor is also made from aluminium. Top of the mouse is made from rubber. You can notice contoured surface on the resting gap of pinky and ring finger. At lower side of the thumb keys there is an additional RGB light.
Scimitar has everything it takes to be a good gaming mouse with great tracking capabilities. With it’s 12000 DPI sensitivity it’s suitable to any big resolution, no matter if it’s a 4k monitor or a big living room TV. It has a zero-acceleration optical mouse sensor with sensitivity up to 12000 dpi. These are great parameters that you can find in a gaming mouse. No acceleration and lower lift-off distance provides you great precision during gaming. If you do’t know what is dpi or don’t know what means an optical sensor, then i recommend you to read our articles:
Corsair Scimitar has 5 light emitting points on itself:
- One at the front below the right click button;
- One in the mouse wheel;
- One in front of thumb grid buttons;
- One at thumb grid buttons;
- Last one at the palm rest.
These light emitters are fully customizable from Corsair Utility Engine Software and you can assign different colorcombinations to a profile. In other words, there are no limits. You can choose from 16.8 million wide color range.
Scimitar MMO Mouse is 147 grams, which is heavier than usual mice. I myself prefer heavy mice. To be honest, we’re talking about grams here. And these so light weights may not seem important to you. I can imagine you saying “come on man these are just grams! Why the hell should i bother?”. If you’re using your mouse for long hours or just using your mouse oftenly, it matters in the long term. Some mice just seem to me so light that i can’t even feel it.
I like heavier mice because they give me the actual feeling of control over my mouse. But of course everyone has their own preferances.
Usually the weight diapozone between 135-150 grams are gamers’ favourite. The increased weight can give you the feel of control. If supersonic speed is not what you’re seeking, then you’ll definetely be fine with 147 grams of this badboy.
Corsair Utility Engine (CUE) Software
Corsair Scimitar Mouse works with its own software Corsair Utility Engine (CUE). CUE Software exist in order to customize your buttons, lights and tracking settings. Usually every big gaming peripheral manufacturer has their own software for their products. These softwares usually have the same features. CUE is,as you can guess, one of them. I can admit that software interface is great and provides you the ability to set your own macros, texts and keystrokes to certain buttons and control your media settings like music or video playback and system volume. You can also create profiles for different sets.
But what’s a profile? It’s actually the complete settings and adjustments you modified to your mouse. If you would like to use not only one set, but multiple sets of different mouse settings, you can create profiles for your different needs. As an example, if you want to play World of Warcraft, you can modify your mouse settings in the way you want, adjust macros and hotkeys to your buttons, set your tracking settings and set it all as one profile. But you don’t want to use your mouse just for WOW, but let’s say you also want to use it with photoshop. You will create another additional profile for your photoshop hotkeys and you can just switch the profiles when you are done with your job at that moment.
A great ability that CUE gives you is the profile switching just with one button. Yes, you can assign the profile switch command to a button and you will be able to swipe between profiles suitable for your needs just with a click.
The lighting menu in CUE allows you to adjust the color of mouse lighting. There are four RGB lighting zones on Scimitar MMO Mouse and you can fully customize all of them. You can also choose from different lighting effects. They are solid color, color shift, rainbow and color pulse.
In the Performance & DPI submenu you can adjust your pointer speed, angle snapping, lift height and pointer precision setting. The color of LED light by the thumb grid is also set from this sub menu.
Scimitar is great in many ways as you see. It can be optimized to fulfill any task you desire. And it has a really logical price for all the great futures it presents. Last time when i checked out it was $79.99 at Amazon.com. But you can check it out from here for the latest price. There are discounts sometimes and you may get it for a cheaper price.
Scimitar also has 2 year warranty, which is a good icing on the top.
So,let’s summ all it up with its pros and cons. Altough i really am in love with almost every peripheral i review, i must be honest and objective. Here they are:
- Great features for MMO/MOBA games. The most significant of them are the 12 thumb grid and other fully programmable buttons.
- The one of its kind key slide system.
- Zero acceleration 12000 max DPI Optical Sensor for pro gaming.
- Fully customizable lighting system with 5 RGB LED light emitting points.
- Specially designed ergonomics for maximum comfort.
- 2 year warranty.
- Good alternative to use in design field.
- If you don’t like big and heavier mice, it met get some time for you to get used to it.
- If you’re going to use your mouse for simpler daily purposes or for other kind of games like FPS, then you might consider some other mice. Like Razer Deathadder maybe.
