Razer has come up with the epic Razer Lancehead and this one can be perceived as the Lancehead of SteelSeries. The same concept, different brands.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

SteelSeries Sensei 310 carries the classical design patterns of SteelSeries 310 series with its semi-rough matte materials, serrated side grips, and split trigger button design. It's a gaming mouse custom designed for ESports and performance gaming with every detail pre-thought.

SteelSeries Rival 310 is the right-handed FPS/RPG-oriented gaming weapon and offers GREAT ADVANTAGE!! CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT Our SteelSeries Rival 310 Review!!

If you're looking for a sleek fingertip/claw grip ambidextrous gaming mouse which will boost your performance and make your enemies fear you, then Sensei 310 is one of the best alternatives you can get!

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

The biggest advantage of SteelSeries Sensei 310 is the top-notch performance it offers for such a reasonable price. It's one of the gaming mice that offers the best price/quality ratio!! For gamers who don't want to break their budgets, Sensei 310 is one of the best decisions you can make!! To get info about the prices and the place where you can buy it from, scroll down to our "Where To Buy It From??" Section.

With its 91 grams of weight, it can be classified under the lightweight gaming mouse category. Personally, I like mice with a weight higher than 100 grams, but Sensei 310 is designed with fast-paced performance gaming in mind. Combined with its low profile fingertip/claw grip ergonomics it draws the picture of an assassin. Dynamic, agile, easy to handle, and DEADLY.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

The classic 310 series side grips are appearing before our very eyes here again with Sensei 310. Serrated and curvy side grips provide a better handling and improved control on our SteelSeries Sensei 310 in general. I love these details and SteelSeries is a pro when it comes to fine-tuning their gaming mice with these little details.

The anti-fingerprint material that's used on the surface allows Sensei 310 to stay clean and oil-print free all the time. It also provides a great user experience! I give attention to these details and it actually makes a great difference when compared with other conventional gaming mice.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

Ambidextrous Form Factor

SteelSeries Sensei 310 is that little ambidextrous buddy of SteelSeries which is one of the BEST gaming peripherals manufacturer EVER in my opinion. SteelSeries Sensei 310 is exclusive because of its ambidextrous form factor which stands out within the other SteelSeries Rival series mice which are made for right-handed gamers in mind. It's actually a decades-long problem which still bugs the mind of many gamers today.

There's no doubt that finding a suitable gaming mouse with a custom ergonomic form factor is not a hard task for right-handed gamers because all mice are manufactured suitable to right-handed gaming. When it comes to finding the perfect gaming weapon for a leftie, then that's where the problems start occurring. Gaming mice for left-handed gamers are pretty rare when compared to conventional gaming mice but SteelSeries Sensei 310 is here to solve this problem.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 ReviewWith the low profile and sleek ambidextrous ergonomic design of Sensei 310 probably any gamer can find a sweet spot on it for themselves. It's not a tiny mouse, but it's clear that it's smaller than other SteelSeries mice. When you compare it to the SteelSeries Rival 700, which reminds me of a tank with its bulky exteriors and modular interchangeable parts, it's little by comparison. Here are the dimensions of this baby:

  • Lenght: 125.1 mm
  • Width: 60.77 mm (front), 61.77 mm (middle), 70.39 mm (back)
  • Height:38.95 mm

It's obviously not tiny, but the low profile design makes it suitable for fingertip grip too. Most of the SteelSeries gaming mice lineup is designed as a claw grip/palm grip hybrid and adding an option for our fingertip grip lover friends is a great decision.

It's also beneficial for SteelSeries to keep an ambidextrous and fingertip grip mouse in their artillery for the ones who are in search for such mice. Now almost every decent mouse manufacturer is applying this marketing and brand strategy.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

I personally prefer Claw/Palm grip hybrids but SteelSeries Sensei worked just fine for me. I loved it A LOT and using it was quite a charm. It's pretty comfortable and I sometimes use ambidextrous mice when I want full control over my mouse.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 was petty comfortable to handle and if I have to define how it feels I would tell you that it's like holding a MONSTER OF PERFORMANCE. It's like a sneaky little ninja who is waiting to strike his deadliest move.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 comes with 8 buttons at your service. Here is the list of buttons:

  • Left/Right clicks
  • Two thumb side buttons
  • Two outer side buttons
  • Scroll Wheel Button
  • DPI Button

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

The most significant difference of Sensei 310 is, of course, the two outer side buttons. This is the part which makes left-handed users happy!! With the additional side buttons, Sensei 310 can transform to a left-handed gaming mouse any time you want. You can either use both of the side buttons, but I don't recommend using all the four side buttons because you probably won't get comfortable with the outer buttons and eventually end up disabling them.

You also don't need to use all the buttons because without the outer side buttons Sensei 310 still performs badass and you have ALL the button setup you need right at your fingertips.

The split trigger click buttons are AWESOME and they're specially designed to operate separately without any mechanical connection between two buttons. This feature reduces your risk of accidentally triggering the other mouse click resulting in undesired actions.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 ReviewThe design of the scroll wheel is AWESOME and pretty eye-catching with its pretty cool asymmetric grooved mold.

It makes scoring easier and the scroll wheel sticks to your finger easier this way. It has greatly optimized scrolling steps which don't feel strange at all. Scroll wheel design is great!

The DPI button is placed right behind the scroll wheel. The reason it's called the DPI button is that as standard this specific button is meant and set for DPI shift. You can actually program it to assign any kind of command.  But my personal advice is to set it to commands that you don't use too frequently.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

It's harder to press when compared to other buttons and you better make sure that you're not going to change the form of your hand too often in order to press the DPI switch.   All the buttons are programmable and you can assign any kind of macros and create your own profiles to use when playing specific games or using various software.

Prism RGB Light System

SteelSeries Sensei 310 comes with 2 zones of illumination which are the scroll wheel area and the SteelSeries logo. You can choose from 16.8 million RGB colors to light up the illumination zones and you can mesmerize the surrounding people with 4 different color animations which are:

  • Steady
  • Color Shift
  • Multi Color Breathe
  • Trigger

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

The good thing about the profiles is that you can save them to the on-board memory of Sensei 310 to carry around with you. Without the need for a software, you can easily access your pre-determined profile and this way you can present all those pretty lights to your fellow LAN party buddies.

There is also a pretty cool feature called Prism Sync which syncs the lights of ALL the SteelSeries peripherals you have to each other. If you are a fan of SteelSeries and using multiple SteelSeries peripherals you can easily sync their illumination settings by using the SteelSeries Engine Software. This way you can easily have yourself a mesmerizing lighting show.

Here's a video demonstration by SteelSeries where you can get an idea of how you can use the Prism Sync feature:

The Technical Side Of Things

SteelSeries Sensei 310 is equipped with one of the BEST optical sensors around - The True Move 3 optical sensor which is actually a PixArt 3360 optical sensor customized and specially developed with the collaboration of SteelSeries and PixArt. It's improved and enhanced in performance, jittering and acceleration are eliminated to provide the BEST performance to gamers. It's one of the most competitive optical sensors around and it's crafted to be used in ESports events or where competitive gaming exists.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

TrueMove sensor lineup is the result of Steelseries' hard work in jitter reduction and solving the latency issues. The collaboration with PixArt has paid out well and this teamwork resulted in the first "True One-To-One Tracking" Optical Sensor as SteelSeries claims. TrueMove3 offers zero jitter and one-to-one tracking up to 3,500 DPI and beyond that milestone, the sensor uses "advanced jitter reduction" which is said not to slow down response time. The sensor is so high quality that I can't find any negative sides of it. It's AWESOME and it has done a great job when it comes to putting me on a killing spree during my fast-paced shooter FPS/RPG gaming sessions.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

This collaboration with PixArt is not exclusive to SteelSeries. One of the biggest players, Razer, is also known for their teaming up with PixArt to produce Razer exclusive high-end optical gaming mouse sensors. Razer uses the PMW 3389 optical sensor in their mouse lineup and they're pretty kickass and extra deadly too. These brands and their mice are great candidates for competitive gamers who aim to be the best. SteelSeries Sensei 310 is also used by the ESports professional Syad "Suma1l" Hassan from the Evil Geniuses team.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

SteelSeries Sensei 310 offers you from 100 to 12,000 DPI of sensitivity adjustment. You probably will never use that much DPI and probably every gamer with an interest in gaming peripherals knows that high DPI numbers are pointed out for marketing purposes. It's not a bad thing, but I'm just telling that it is not a value that you will use at all. My personal interval for DPI is between 800 - 3,400 MAX especially in this interval there is no chance that you will come across any jittering or latency problems. And considering that Sensei 310 offers one-to-one tracking and advanced jitter reduction at higher DPIs, you'll be fine on any DPI level.

ARM Performance Processor

Sensei 310 has a powerful 32-bit ARM processor which prevents latency issues and provides you the ability to save the on-board profile to the brain of Sensei 310. Yes, you can save your profile of choice to the brain of Sensei 310 and carry your mouse settings anywhere you go without the dependency on a software. It's a great feature from which gamers who travel a lot to LAN parties or ESports events benefit. All your DPI settings, lighting options, and other technical data are stored inside your Sensei 310.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

SteelSeries Sensei 310 uses the SteelSeries Engine Software which is one of the most user-friendly and quality designed gaming peripheral software. It's compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux, so no matter what operating system you're on, you will be able to enjoy the Sensei 310.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

You can assign all kind of macros and button assignments to all of the buttons. You can also disable the outer side buttons if you're worried about accidentally pressing them. You can also assign specific media action buttons, program launches and other different types of commands. The options you have with Sensei 310 are more than a handful.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

The DPI is adjustable through the software and you can set up your DPI from 100 DPI up to 12,000 with 100 DPI increments. It's a wise DPI scale and you probably won't use 12,000 DPI anytime, but it's there just in case you feel like going cowboy on it.

The only downer part about the DPI adjustment is that you can set only 2 DPI values and shift between them. Actually, I don't use more than 2 DPI settings myself, but usually, the high-end mice come with around five switchable DPI stages. This was the only minus of software for me.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

Else of the DPI, you can adjust the acceleration/ deceleration, angle snapping, and the polling rate of Sensei 310.

Everything in the SteelSeries Engine Software is right in front of your eyes and it's impossible not to understand how to use it. It's so USER-FRIENDLY and well designed. It's also one of my personal favorite gaming peripheral software.

I can't finish the review without mentioning the RGB lights of course. Maybe Sensei 310 is not so enriched with RGB lights exploding all over the place when you compare it with a mouse like Razer Mamba, but it has two lighting zones which add quite a visual detail and these two zones are adjustable with several lighting animations and 16.8 million RGB colors of your choice.

SteelSeries Sensei 310 Review

i live the products you are offering, always new to my eyes, thanks for sharing this new technology that can be useful for anyone and i find it very interesting

  2. Ryan says:

I’ve been looking for a new gaming mouse lately! I am just using the generic Lenovo mouse I got with my desktop. All of those extra features would make it so much easier! Thanks for the great article!

  3. Michael Gore says:

This is a great mouse and rather large which I like.

Glad to see more manufacturers joining the ambidextrous train. Not needed for my self but I don’t see why lefties should be left out. Coolermaster have just released an excellent ambidextrous mouse.

I love programmable buttons, something which is a must have if you are a gamer and prefer your own layout while the optics sound great and if its good enough for E-Sports pros then its good enough for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • Tyler says:

Yes, it’s actually suitable for a claw grip and fingertip grip with its large footprint and low profile. And as you said, manufacturers are creating more and more alternatives for left-handed gamers with nnew ambidextrous gaming mice.

Sesei 310 has EVERYTHING a competitive gamer needs and it’s optimized for the BEST USABILITY. If you liked the Sensei 310 and not aleftie, then I advise you to check out our SteelSeries Rival 310 Review and SteelSeries Rival 600 Review. They’re better for right-handed conventional gamers due to better ergonomics.

Or you can also check out the SteelSeries Rival 700 Review if you want a big bad mouse with more weight and exclusive features that you can’t find everywhere. If yoou’re looking for a different brand, I advise you some Logitech and Razer mice from their latest lineup. Razer Deathadder and Razer Basilisk are great variants for right-handed gamers. Also, Razer Lancehead is a great ambidextrous alternative from Razer.

  4. delroaustria says:

I think this mouse does a good job of maintaining an ambidextrous design, as some gaming mice tend to cater mostly to right-handed designs.

The size also looks great, some mice are just downight small and uncomfortable to use, especially in extended sessions.

Even in non-gaming scenarios, this should still be useful and provide a comfortable grip especially for long work periods.

    • Tyler says:

Yeah, it definitely is a GREAT gaming mouse and it’s at right about the ideal size for an ambidextrous gaming mice. It’s not too small and it has a AMAZING design which is custom tailored for ESports.

If you like ambidextrous gaming mice, I advise you check out our  Logitech G903 Review. Also, Logitech G300S is a great budget mouse.

  5. Doug Greer says:

Thanks for the run down on this mouse. I just purchased a Razer Death Adder and am pretty happy with it so far. I found a deal on it too good to pass up.

Reading more about his one makes me think a Sensei mouse may be my next. I have never read anything but positives about their products.

Usually the prices I saw were much higher, I guess I missed the 310.The price point of this mouse is perfect. I bet they sell a lot.

    • Tyler says:

Thank you for checking out the article Doug!!! Razer Deathadder is pretty much a satisfaction guarantee mouse which is preferred by many pro gamers and competitive enthusiasts. It’s a great choice and I think you’ve made a great decision.

Sensei is definitely a MUST have if you’re a gamer interested in ambidextrous gaming mice because SteelSeries Sensei 310 is definitely one of the highest standards in the ambidextrous gaming mice market. If it’s too expensive for you, you can always check out our Logitech G300S review or if you’re looking for a TOP NOTCH ambidextrous gaming mouse, then you should take a look at our Logitech G903 Review.
